our Student Ministry

Student Nights

On the first Sunday Evening of each month we host a special high-energy service for middle and high school students. It's a night full of fun, worship, and an encouraging message from God's Word. Student Nights are a great way to meet new friends and reconnect with old friends. The night starts at 5:30 and meets at our Strawberry Plains location.

Bring your crew and we'll see you at our next Student Night.

Student Mornings

On Sunday Mornings during our 11:00 AM service, our students gather in groups. Groups exist to see students connect in church, grow both spiritually and in life. This is a great environment for students to meet new friends, connect with leaders and grow in every area of life.

Each group is grade-specific and has a group of adult leaders who lead that specific group each week.

Student Teams

We see a church raising up servant leaders who are infused in every aspect of the ministry. We don’t want to lead a church that our middle and high school students want to get away from. We want to lead a church that our students are taking over. We don't want the next generation checking out of church. We want them checking in. The leadership academy is designed for middle and high schoolers. Through our leadership academy students will discover their spiritual gifts and become a part of our Home Team.

This is the hands-on-servant-leadership-component of our student ministry.

Next Steps

“Follow Me” were the words the disciples heard when Jesus recruited His twelve. We often introduce people to Christ by having them repeat a prayer at the close of a service, and that’s great. However, that’s not the finish line; that’s the starting point. Jesus wants to take you on a journey, the ride of your life. That’s what the words, “Follow Me,” are all about. If you’re going to go on a journey with Jesus, that journey is going to require you to move.

At A Church Called Home, we are committed to helping people grow. We want every person to experience the life-giving thrill of following Jesus. That’s why we encourage people to take next steps. It’s our prayer that you keep moving. Perhaps our greatest temptation is not to sin, but to settle. God is on the move; He’s always moving. Let’s never stop following Him.

There are ten things we want every person to experience at A Church Called Home. We have listed each of those steps.

Salvation

The most important step a person can take is to receive the grace offered by Jesus Christ. When someone turns from his or her sin and turns to Jesus, everything changes. At that moment, that person becomes a child of God. John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believe on His name, He gave the right to become the children of God.” We were not born children of God. We were born children of wrath according to Ephesians 2:3. I know that’s not politically correct, but it is biblically correct. Yet, God demonstrated His love for us in that while we are still far from Him, Christ died for us. Jesus suffered and died not because He sinned, but because we sinned. He died for us all. He’s not mad at us, He’s mad about us!

Salvation is often referred to as being “born again.” When a baby is born, the child has no past. When someone is born again, their past sins are erased and in God’s eyes, that person’s past is gone. Isaiah 1:18 says, “’Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are red like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.’” Twenty-one times in the New Testament, salvation is referred to as “the gift of God.” Being a Christian has nothing to do with being good enough or better than other people. Christianity is about turning to Jesus and receiving His gift of love and mercy. When someone does that, the old is gone and all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

At A Church Called Home, we want every person to experience Jesus in this way, and as exciting as that is, it’s just the beginning!

Water Baptism

When someone receives Christ, his or her next step is to celebrate that decision publicly through water baptism. Baptism doesn’t make you a believer; it shows you already believe. Baptism does not “save” you; your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring - it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate your faith in Christ with family and friends.

Why should you be baptized?
• To follow the example set by Jesus because He encouraged us to do so (Mark 1:9, Matthew 28:19-20).

What is the meaning of baptism?
• It illustrates Christ’s death and resurrection and your new life in Christ (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:4).

When should you be baptized?
• As soon as you receive Christ (Acts 2:41, Acts 8:35-38).

We want to celebrate every time our children move toward Christ. Some parents might hesitate to encourage their child to be baptized because of a fear the child might not understand what they are doing. Jesus said that unless we receive the kingdom of Heaven like a child, we cannot inherit it (Matthew 18:2-4). How does a child receive the kingdom of Heaven? The answer is simple faith. If you are old enough to believe, you are old enough to receive. To find out more or to schedule an upcoming baptism text the words welcome home to 94000.

Growth Track

The three best days of your life are the day you were born, the day you were born again, and the day you discover why you were born and born again. When you receive Christ, you are saved from something (sin, shame, hell), but you are also saved for something. The cross wasn’t only about your freedom from sin; it was also about your freedom to be all that you were created to be. There’s a world changer inside of you. Growth Track is designed to awaken that reality. During Growth Track, you will learn more about the heartbeat of A Church Called Home, our vision, and the why behind all we do. You will also have an opportunity to discover your spiritual gifts and learn how you can make a difference by serving on our Home Team.

Since the time you were a young child on the playground during recess, you’ve longed to be on the team. We all have. Being a part of something bigger than yourself is incredible and fulfilling. We would love to have you on our team, and Growth Track is your next step in doing so.

You can RSVP for Growth Track by texting the words welcome home to 94000, or Click here to register.

Connect Group

Life is just better with friends, and that is what our connect groups are all about. Groups are an integral part of what we do at A Church Called Home. Faith comes alive when people connect with God and others. When God wants to do something incredible in your life, He will always connect you to the right people. Show me your friends, and I will show you your future. Sustained life change happens in the context of relationships. Some levels of freedom will only be experienced within the context of godly relationships. Something we say a lot at A Church Called Home is, “Temptation always begins with isolation.” James 1:14 says, “We are all tempted when we are drawn away...” We are stronger together, and we are better together.

Groups provide people with the opportunity to: build community, be encouraged and offer encouragement, learn from others, discuss questions and grow in faith. Our groups gather in various places at various times throughout the week. Some of our groups revolve around book studies, some are outreach focused and some are more fellowship oriented. One thing is for sure; you

Freedom

Freedom Groups are based on a thirteen-week small group Bible study. Groups gather weekly to discuss the Freedom Small Group Curriculum. Freedom Groups build on the foundation of your faith in Christ to help you embrace the truth of God’s Word as it relates to your past, your personal value to God, and your purpose in His Kingdom.

The group concludes with a two-day retreat designed to help believers move from the experience of salvation to the abundant life that Jesus desires for them. Churches from all over the country participate in Freedom Groups. Regional retreats with several churches involved provide for an incredible experience. The mission of Freedom Groups is to equip participants to remove every obstacle to intimacy with God and walk in the true freedom. We host Freedom Groups twice a year.

Grace Retreat

The Grace Retreat is an opportunity to unplug from the day-to-day grind and to experience the love of God in a life-changing way.  If you are ready for a spiritual reset, that is exactly what the retreat is all about.  You will enjoy three days of learning, laughing, worshiping, reflecting, and praying, privately and in small groups.  From the time you arrive until the time you leave, you will be served like royalty, and the food is amazing!

The retreat is not a flashy production driven event. The simplicity of it is what makes the experience so beautiful. Discussions center around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy.  These talks present the theme of God’s grace and how that grace comes alive in the Christian community. During your retreat, you will experience a small taste of what Heaven is sure to be like.

Missions

Why go on a mission trip? There is truly nothing like serving others internationally. Seeing how others live and worship is life changing. You quickly realize God’s kingdom is bigger than your little world back home. Experiencing foreign missions will forever change the way you view the world and your own life. It’s a humbling experience and without a doubt, you will leave more grateful for what you have and how blessed you are.

On a mission trip, we tend to have a more “God-Focused” mindset. This allows the Holy Spirit to work in amazing ways in both our lives and the lives of those we serve. There’s no better way to learn about other cultures than through international missions. What you learn will create a love and appreciation for the people you serve; which will cause you to be more open-minded and loving towards other people groups.

Giving

What is tithing?
It’s giving God the first 10% of your income. It’s not just giving 10%; it’s giving God the first 10% of your income (Proverbs 11:24).

Why would you do that?
Here are three reasons why tithing is so important:

1. Because tithing honors God. Anything that has first place in your finances has first place in your heart. Tithing helps you live with meaning and purpose, knowing that you’re creating legacy for generations to come.

2. Tithing is an act of worship. The first time worship is mentioned in Scripture, Abraham was climbing a mountain to offer a sacrifice. Worship and giving are inseparable.

3. Tithing moves the gospel forward. When you honor God with your resources, you become a partner in the Great Commission, joining with Jesus in furthering His work in the world.

Tithing is not giving money. Tithing is investing money. Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom.” When you tithe, you invite God’s super to partner up with your natural and something supernatural takes place. As a church, we are committed to helping our congregation grow in all areas of their spiritual life, including generosity.

Servant Leadership

Many people have a misconception of what ministry really is. Ephesians 4:11-12 says, “Now these gifts Christ gave to the church the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, their responsibility is to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” The word “ministry” in that passage simply means to serve, run errands, to assist, to be a waiter, to do the little things that others overlook. Ministry is simply doing what is needed when it’s needed. Ministry doesn’t start in the pulpit. At A Church Called Home, we often say that church doesn’t begin in the auditorium. Church begins in the parking lot, at the front door, at kid’s check-in, and so on. Ministry is so much more than a microphone and a platform.

If our focus is a platform, we will never be satisfied. A platform focused life is a life of frustration. Nowhere in the Gospels can we find Jesus placing an emphasis on platforms. He called us to serve. When I keep serving as my focus, I can then be content, satisfied, and fulfilled. So what is servant leadership? A servant-leader focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the cause to which they belong. While traditional leadership generally involves the exercise of power, servant leadership is different. The servant-leader puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and achieve as highly as possible. If you are serving on a team and would like to assist in the leadership process, let your team leader know.

Baby Dedication

Baby Dedication is an opportunity for parents to publicly display their commitment to raising their child according to God’s Word and His ways. In the Bible, Hannah dedicates Samuel to God and commits to raising him in God’s presence. As you publicly dedicate your child, you are committing to guide them to grow in their faith and nurture a relationship with Jesus. We celebrate this spiritual milestone with you!

What is the purpose of baby dedication?

1. The church partners with families to equip their child to love God, God’s Word, God’s House, and God’s people.

2. Families celebrate and dedicate their child to the Lord.

3. Families publicly display their commitment to raising their child according to God’s Word and His ways.

How does baby dedication work?
After worship and before the message, parents will bring their child on stage for the dedication portion of the service. During this time, pastor will have a moment of encouragement and prayer for the parents and child. We encourage you to invite family and friends to share in this experience. This is such an exciting time and memorable moment in a family's life.
